HANA YOUNG

Modelling, commercial real estate, business brokerage, golf and working three different careers on a daily basis. It seems there’s nothing American beauty HANA YOUNG can’t do…

Hey Hana, congrats on your first MAXIM feature.
Hey Guys, thank you so much! I’m truly honoured to be featured in MAXIM Australia. It’s an amazing accomplishment and such a bucket-list goal.

Give us a little more background about yourself and your life story so far.
I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska but then moved to Florida when I was 10. I played golf professionally right after high school but didn’t make it onto the main pro tours. So, I quit and got into commercial real estate, business brokerage and modelling. Then a few years ago I opened state accredited Recovery Residences in Central Florida with a company I partnered up with called ARC. It’s transitional living for adults recovering from alcoholism and substance abuse disorders. As of today, I work three different careers on a daily basis.

Impressive! What else would people be surprised to know about you?
I have a grand sense of humour. People think I’m very serious, but after getting to know me I can make anyone laugh at any given time. Or so I’d like to think.

How would you describe yourself in five words?
Ambitious, honest, loyal, quirky and empathetic.

What is your best asset?
My hair and my hips but I’ve been known to have more curves than the stereotypical Asian model.

What’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you on a shoot?
Getting torn up by waves when I was shooting in Hawaii earlier this year. I was laying on a rock during a sunset and the waves knocked me over so many times. I looked like I fell out of a moving car with the amount of scars and scrapes I endured.

Ouch! What’s the biggest misconception about modelling?
People think models don’t have to do much to make it or become a model, but it takes a lot of patience, discipline, strong minds and flexibility. Also, the amount of time and effort it takes for one photo or one show, there are so many moving parts behinds the scenes that go unnoticed.

What’s the weirdest thing someone has sent you via social media?
I had a long message from a guy telling me his whole life story and I had no idea who he was, but at the end of the long novel-esque message, he asked me on a date. Outside of that, I receive unwarranted eggplant emoji pics. Guys, it’s NOT cute!

What have you learned about men over the years?
They’re not great at multitasking!

What’s one thing men should always remember about women?
It’s about sincerity and details. Ask about her day, keep track of what she’s saying and engage in what she shares about herself. Also, be open with what you’re thinking or what your intentions are – it will save you a lot of time and stress.

What do you look for in a man?
Humour, ambition, a creative mind, loyalty, self-awareness and most importantly, accountability.

If you had to take MAXIM on a date what would it entail?
First, we would have to grab a coffee then go to a museum, talk and get to know one another. I also would want to go to a local arcade and play some air hockey or other fun games – to have some fun and also see if you can handle my competitive side. We can cap the night off at a sushi or trendy fusion food restaurant.

Nice. What’s next for you?
I don’t have any specific projects, but 2018 brought me a lot of great opportunities, including this feature. I’m always open to new ideas or projects and I hope to grow more in this industry as well as my other businesses. I’m still finding my way!
