Welcome back, Lauryn. What have you been up to since you last graced our cover?
It has been very busy but exciting and refreshing as well. In the past few months I’ve been getting my ducks in a row to not only work with the media but to expand my expertise and acquire the skills to conquer the ever-growing, competitive world of entrepreneurship. So, since I last shot with MAXIM I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in ambassadorship roles with Centrebet, Hyundai, and Lonsdale, and I’m currently studying and pursuing my real passion – health and fitness – with the launch of my very own Eagle Fitness boot camps.
How different was this shoot to the one you did for MAXIM’s 1st Birthday cover?
There was a completely different vibe right from the word go. There was a real sense of athleticism, rather than it being a lighthearted lingerie shoot. I’m feeling healthier, fitter, and happier than I have in some time, so it’s a really nice opportunity to shoot a cover when you are feeling content. My body shape is different now, too.
How so?
I’m not as muscular as I was. For the first shoot I was probably the lightest I’ve ever been. I was really relaxed and I think you get better expressions and shots that way.
Is this the most risqué shoot you’ve ever done?
Oh, definitely. Aside from the regular negative perspectives that the media drum up, I was in two minds as to whether it was the right time for me to feature in a men’s magazine, as the launch of my boot camps was so near. But in today’s society, body image has become significantly influenced by the media. So I felt that promoting a healthy, athletic figure was a positive move. I want to portray to both men and women that if you feel comfortable in your own skin – inside and out – then you’re winning.
What’s a typical day for you, in terms of health and fitness?
It changes constantly. I normally train in the morning, doing boxing or yoga. I used to be a fanatic and train two-to-four hours per day. It was too much. The more you train, the more you consume, so, essentially, you put on weight. I limit it to about an hour per day now. I also like to run, do sprints, weight training, and walk my dogs for a bit of leisure. Plus I lead a very active lifestyle in general. Sometimes I’ll take the entire weekend off, since rest is really important.
Tell us more about your boot camp.
Eagle Fitness boot camps is operating out of Bondi and Cronulla, targeting mostly female clients aged 16-25. It’s a four-week program and we’ll also cater to nutritional needs. I hope to take the program online and develop it into something like Michelle Bridges’ program, but for a younger demographic.
Are you a nice trainer or do you yell a lot?
I’m nice, but tough. I will push you to your limits in order for you to reach your desired goals. Everybody finds motivation in different ways. I like to identify my clients’ traits and build from there. There is no need to be aggressive – it only disheartens your clients.
How’s the boxing going? What’s next with that?
I’m still boxing. I’ve got a fight in Dubbo [in northwestern NSW] at the end of September. And I’m fighting on the Mosley-Mundine card at the end of October [still TBA at time of print], which I’m really excited about. I just love boxing. It has been a real coping mechanism for me during life’s ups and downs.
