The Huntress

Cross a buggy and an off-road SUV and you get, The Huntress…

Forget your Hummers, Jeeps, and Cybertrucks – there is a new formidable off-road machine in town (albeit a concept). Designed by Connery Xu, it looks like a hybrid of a buggy and a big off-roading SUV. The designer calls it The Huntress, and in actuality – it is one.

The most obvious thing everyone notices first is the front and rear independent suspension system, and flexible front wheel design. This allows each wheel to rise and lower autonomously over uneven terrains – making it look like a giant crab crawling across the sand. It’s not just the wheels that move but the entire front left and right sections, including the uniquely designed headlight units. The headlights themselves – which are attached to the wheel suspension – are also able to rotate horizontally to provide illumination when the path ahead is somewhat sketchy.

The cabin of the Huntress features two gull-wing doors, a design that has been made popular by movies such as Back to the Future, but also in a more modern context by vehicles such as the Tesla Model X.
Connery also designed the Huntress to be all-electric. The electric motors would be housed at the rear for better air intake, thereby able to deliver peak power without running hot. Alongside the motors would be two spare tyres – absolute necessities considering the terrains to be tackled.

It would most likely fit into an ultra- niche luxury bracket, but there would be hundreds of enthusiasts who would happily pay to experience the Huntress’ unique twisting and articulating body on the dunes of the Sahara desert, or on the forest tracks of the Amazon. Time to update your bucket list.
