It’s hard to miss the bright, pastel shades of Fortuna Drink & Eat on the corner of Victoria and Liverpool Streets in Darlinghurst, Sydney. This inviting all-day Italian eatery is a charming cafe by day, and buzzing restaurant at night.
Fortuna opened its doors in late 2021, and was founded by George Nahas and Egon Marzaiolo. With over 30 years combined experience in the industry, they were the perfect match to create a truly authentic and flavoursome experience for their diners.
Upon entry, you’ll be greeted by the striking and ambient mint green windows, gold lamps and red accents that will make you feel like you’re summer-side on the Amalfi Coast. For dinner, be sure to start with their burrata saturated in basil oil and mixed in with fresh Roma tomatoes combined with their warm house made focaccia topped with fermented chilli butter and black salt. Onto main course and you will want to try a bit of everything including their flavoursome pasta dishes. Their lamb ragu was a stand-out as well as their rigatoni pomodoro for a vegetarian option. Their crispy thin, gourmet pizzas are another must-try. Their spicy diavolo pizza topped in soppressa salami, mozzarella and honey is truly delicious and can be accompanied with some mouth-watering sides including their Caesar salad or crushed potatoes roasted in garlic.
To keep celebrating the good life, you can’t go past the Fortuna lychee martini which is truly insta-worthy, or keep things classic with an espresso martini. Alternatively they offer up an impressive wine-list and you’ll be sure to find something to accompany your hearty Italian fare.
Get the cameras out for dessert because Fortuna serves up some serious crowd-pleasers here with their Italian meringue bomb served with all the theatrics including lighting it on fire. For something a little more quintessential, the Fortuna Tiramisu is another tasty treat to finish off the night. And don’t forget to wash it all down with a shot of Limoncello.
