For the first time since 2019, the ARIA Awards took place in front of a live audience. The show was held at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and broadcast on both YouTube and Channel 9.
This year Baker Boy dominated, taking home a total of five awards for his album Gela which included the top gong for album of the year, as well as best solo artist and best hip-hop release. His win marks the first time an Indigenous Australian artist has claimed the ARIA Awards top prize in its 35-year history.
Best group went to punk outfit Amyl and the Sniffers, who also took home best rock release for their 2021 album Comfort to Me. Bundjalung soul singer Budjerah, accepted the ARIA Award for best soul/R&B release. Overall, no big name celebrity artists took the awards this year, instead the awards went to mostly new and upcoming indie/rock artists.
Christian Wilkins and comedian Froomes gave us a first look at the red carpet action, interviewing musicians and influencers against a beautiful floral backdrop. There was plenty of glitz and glam amongst the music industry’s brightest stars opting for local and international designs.
