Meet rising model, former art student, teacher, avid snowboarder and sassy American beauty ELIZA WINN. You’re welcome…
Wonderful MAXIM photo shoot, Eliza. Tell us a bit about it.
This photo shoot was so much fun. It has been a dream of mine to shoot for MAXIM for years. So, I wanted to embrace the classic MAXIM look I’ve known and went with simple, black lingerie. A lady cannot go wrong with black lingerie and simplicity. The combination of the styling, my look (tattoos and style), and the attitude really came together well for this shoot.
Well you look gorgeous. When do you feel sexy?
Thank you! I feel sexy when I’m the most confident and around the right people. My surroundings reflect me, as I reflect them.
What is your best asset?
Physically, although this may be boring, my best asset is my eyes. Otherwise, I pride myself on my genuine personality and my brain. I love to learn — for instance, I love studying psychology and political science as a hobby.
You’ve got some serious ink on your body.
Compared to my friends I hardly have any! Daria Pirojenko, Jeffrey Page and Tokyo Hiro are just a handful of the talented artists I’ve collected art from. I’ve lost count of how many and have no plans of stopping.
With a surname like yours, besides “Winning”, what’s the best nickname you’ve been given?
Haha… in high school I was known as “the bitch in the ZERO hoodie”, but other than that people call me “Liza Boo”.
Give us a little more background about yourself and your life story so far.
I grew up in a small town called Aspen, Colorado in the USA. When I was 15 I won multiple concerto competitions playing piano and attended a prestigious art school to advance my studies in Ojai, California. I began to get noticed by photographers and was published in a Japanese skateboarding magazine. Within the year, I was working with Ford Models in New York. At that time I was an avid snowboarder and heavily into the punk music while doing modelling on the side and attending school. I was 22 when a photographer asked me to model for Playboy and it wasn’t long before I was doing shoots for other magazines. It’s been a lot of hard work but I love my life.
What would people be most surprised to know about you?
I used to be a school teacher! I taught pre-school through fourth grade just before I started modelling seriously. Teachers don’t get enough credit.
What else do you do when you’re not modelling or content creating?
Music drives me! I interview musicians for magazines from time to time. I also love the outdoors, hiking, snowboarding.
What do you dislike about social media?
I believe that one needs to be careful with social media — it can become unhealthy and it can put a lot of unnecessary pressure on people, especially younger adults. Also, if you bully someone behind a screen, even if they are wrong, you are a loser.
What’s the weirdest thing someone has sent you or commented on social media?
There’s a grandmother who loves to hate on me and write nasty comments on my TikTok! It honestly cracks me up, I love it. It’s hilarious that I can piss someone off that much just by existing.
What message do you have for social media trolls and online haters?
Take a shower. Then go love yourself so you don’t have to hate others.
What have you learnt about men over the years?
That I need to be careful with boundaries and not everyone wants to be “just friends”.
How can a man win his way to your heart?
By treating me like a queen and making me laugh. Talent goes a long way, too. I’m attracted to talent, humour and intellect.
What’s one thing men should always remember about women?
Men should remember that women are goddesses – without us, you wouldn’t be.
If you had to take MAXIM on a date, what would it entail?
Well MAXIM, I’d love to take you out on a date, but I don’t think you’d be able to keep up with me.
Sounds perfect. What’s the first thing you will do once all travel restrictions, due to COVID, are lifted?
I’m going to go to shows, travel and work my ass off!
Where’s the best place you’ve ever travelled?
I went to Japan on tour with several bands, and the first time I saw it my jaw dropped. The lights, the food, the fashion, the whole culture is so different from everything I’ve ever known.
Have you ever been to Australia?
Yes! In 2012 I went on the Soundwave Tour with The Used, Strung Out and Saves The Day. It was an incredible experience getting to explore Australia with my friends for the first time.
And what did you learn about our land Down Under?
Pink sands, penguin island, Byron Bay, Nando’s, cute accents and beautiful people.
What’s next for you? Any exciting projects on the horizon you can share with us?
I have a lot of creative merchandise coming out soon! I’ve also been working on a calendar for 2022 that might shock some people, but I can’t speak about it too much yet. In addition, I’ll be touring for photo shoots as soon as everything is as safe as can be, going all over the US then to Germany, London, New Zealand and, of course, Australia!
Finally, finish this sentence: If I ruled the world for a day, I’d…
Chase the sun and save all the animals. ■
