Unlike Hollywood today, the custom motorbike scene is known for dismissing copy-repeat projects in favour of innovative and creative builds – with just the right amount of crazy. The craftsmanship on this BMW R nineT from Zillers Garage in Russia is a prime sample – and far from a grocery getter.
Zillers Garage is run by Dmitry Golubchikov, an AMD Championship winner who gained many followers from his early Vincent bike tinkering. He mostly works assignments solo, but thanks to commission from BMW Motorrad Russia, called in reinforcements on this one.
Dmitry starts out with a 2016 model R nineT, and guts it until all that’s left is motor, final drive arm and some of the frame. Everything gets hand-formed with aluminium, aside from the cylinder heads; and everything is created in-house, over 10 months – and plenty of vodka.
That arch that runs over the bars acts as a cockpit, with a Motogadget Motoscope Mini speedo and a set of integrated push buttons. The head and taillights are built into the bodywork, along with four LED blinkers – and an under seat USB socket for all your charging needs.
Under the hood, engine internals are untouched, but with new wiring. The engine is that of an R nineT motorcycle; a 1,170cc boxer engine capable of 110 horsepower at 7,750 RPM. In other words, it’s a quick bastard.
Everything wears the same shade of grey – from the body, to the fork legs, to the engine, and the custom 18 inch rims designed to camouflage as turbines. Those bold curves aren’t just for show either – they reduce drag and redirect wind flow.
If you’re wondering where the ground clearance went – there’s none. Instead of a stand it rests on its belly; the pneumatic system onboard simply lifts the bike when it’s time to haul ass. There’s even a license plate bracket fitted – meaning the Russians were nuts enough to street register this thing.
