Aston Martin is launching the Valhalla, their first ever plug-in hybrid supercar aiming to rival Ferrari’s SF90…
Following their DB12 and Valkyrie models, it seems Aston is getting the hang of this supercar thing. So much so they’re planning to launch eight more by 2026 – starting with their first plug-in hybrid, the Valhalla. Unlike the 2019 concept, the Valhalla ghosts the V6, and follows the Vantage with a twin turbo V8 by tech partner Mercedes Benz AMG.
Like AMG’s GT Black Series, this V8 features a flat-plane crank but also gets into the record books as the most responsive V8 ever fitted to an Aston Martin. Humble brag aside, it also features adjustable flaps for that authentic Aston sound we all love.
Two electric motors are called upon (a first for Aston); one on the rear axle and another at the front, producing 149 kW for a total of 735 kW, closing in on the impressive output of the Ferrari SF90 – its nemesis.
The hybrid system here can adjust the power to each wheel, and yes – 100% to the rear axle is doable and encouraged. With the petrol/electric system at its optimum, Valhalla can reach 349 km/h, do 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, and chase down the Nurburgring lap time of 6 mins 30 seconds. Like Aston’s AMR23 Formula One racer, the front splitter and rear wing can generate 600kg of downforce at 240 km/h, while the F1 style pushrod suspension allows you to lower ride height for better track stats.
All these elements along with the carbon fibre tub keep weight down to 1550kg, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio that have its class rivals going back to the automotive drawing board.
As with the Valkyrie, the F1 cockpit is driver-focused, complete with squared steering wheel, raised footwell and lowered seat. But here there are some traces of tech, like an infotainment touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Though the Valkyrie carries a monster legacy, the Valhalla is rarer, pricier, and more electrified. As limited as they come, its coming to Australia – complete with sexy roof mounted snorkel.
