Sharni Vinson

HOMETOWN: Cronulla, NSW.
BIRTHDAY: July 22, 1983.
HIDDEN TALENTS: “I’m incredibly proud I can pull a ‘monkey face’ and also of the fact I can touch my nose with my tongue. Other than that, I was a state-level swimmer for 15 years and still hold some records.”
MOST EMBARRASSING SONG ON HER IPOD: “‘Under The Sea’ from The Little Mermaid. It’s my favourite movie and the soundtrack is amazing! But it’s always odd when I have my music playing and then that kicks in. Really changes the vibe!”
CRAZIEST RUMOUR: “People saying I use fake tan. I’m naturally dark. It made me laugh.”
TELL US A SECRET: “I eat. A lot.”
CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT… “Taking risks.”

You’ve been living in LA since 2008. How has the transition from Home and Away to Hollywood been for you?
It was so surreal. I went from having a full-time job, income, schedule, my friends around all day, and living at home to living 8,000 miles across the ocean, where I had no job, friends, or family and had to deal with the “real world” for the first time – getting a visa, agent, renting a home, paying bills. I definitely grew up a lot and learned a few new things during that transition.

What’s the biggest misconception Americans have about Australia?
Probably that we ride kangaroos to school.

How do you think you’d fare in a survival situation like the one in Bait?
Hopefully the unique situation I find myself in in Bait never actually happens. But if I ever was stuck in a flooded supermarket, post-tsunami, with an armed robber and a great white, I don’t imagine I’d be too happy about it!
